Katie Horst, Bio

Katie Horst

I have grown up around music. I sang in a professional touring children’s choir at the age of 9 for three years, and took piano lessons beginning at age 7. I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz studies from Capilano University. I have 13 years of teaching experience as a piano teacher, as well as a theory instructor (both individual and class settings.) I also bring music experience as a worship leader and team member from Fraser Heights Community Church and Calvary Christian Church from a period of over 10 years. I specialize in Jazz, having performed in Jazz groups since I was 13 years old, and including recent ensembles conducted by nationally renowned conductor and adjudicator Rejean Marois. I have studied private voice with many of BC’s finest instructors, and also took Jazz Pedagogy and Beginner & Advanced conducting courses as part of my degree. My classical voice training and involvement with the professional ensemble Laudate Singers has allowed me to become a well rounded musician. I have completed grade 10 Royal Conservatory voice and am working on my ARCT. In addition, I have also directed several children’s musicals and both wrote/directed the upcoming production of “Not Your Average Joe” for Calvary Christian Church. I bring a well-rounded approach to everything I teach, and have a sincere passion for what I do!
